Interact District Chair Trey Greene 2011-12
Organizing an Interact club is one of the most rewarding activities a Rotary club can undertake in its community.
The Interact program gives Rotarians the opportunity to mentor dynamic young men and women who want to help the local and international community.
Rotarians serve as resources for Interactors, who will become tomorrow’s parents, professionals, and community leaders.
An Interact club can bring new energy to a Rotary club, inspiring fresh ideas for service, increasing support to projects, and spreading knowledge of Rotary into other sectors of the community. Interactors, with the experience they’ve gained through this Rotary-sponsored program, make exceptional future Rotaractors and later Rotarians. |
Interact is Rotary International's service club for young people ages 12-18 years. Interact clubs are sponsored by individual Rotary clubs, which provide support and guidance, but Interact clubs are self-governing and self-supporting.
Club membership varies greatly. Clubs can be single-gender or mixed, as well as large and small. The membership base can be drawn from the student body of a single school or from two or more schools from the same community.
Each year, Interact clubs complete at least two community service projects, one of which furthers international understanding and goodwill. Through projects, Interactors develop a network of friendships with local and overseas clubs. And, in the process, Interactors develop leadership skills and learn the value of hard work.
The good works of the Interactors may give a Rotary Club more information about service opportunities for the Rotary Club, itself.

As Interactors move on from secondary schools, they often join Rotaract or even spearhead the formation of Rotaract Clubs in the next stage of their careers. Many Interactors participate in Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) seminars and sometimes go overseas as Youth Exchange Students or Scholars. Key messages for the Interact program
• Promote Interact to maintain the growth and continuity of the program. Use publications, video, the Internet, club presentations, and other methods. District Interact chairs and representatives should create a district Interact newsletter.
• Establish strong relationships between Interact clubs and their sponsor Rotary clubs. Invite Interactors to attend meetings of the sponsor Rotary club, and include them in service projects, such as polio eradication efforts. Suggest that Rotary clubs appoint an Interact committee.
• Share information about Rotary with Interactors to develop a lifelong interest in Rotary. Distribute Rotary publications such as the governor’s monthly letter, Rotary Leader, and The Rotarian or regional magazine to Interact clubs.
• Consult with Interact clubs to develop a district wide service project for all Interact clubs.
• Ask Interactors to give presentations on their club’s projects at Rotary club and district meetings.
• Recognize Rotarians who are involved in Interact at the club and district level.

Joyce from the Downriver Community Food Pantry came to pick up the food that was collected. Some of the Interact Club members helped load her truck! It was a great moment....I introduced all the kids to her and she really got emotional and nearly started to cry trying to thank them for their efforts and telling them what a big help this will be with Thanksgiving.
