DISTRICT CONFERENCE - 2008 NIAGARA FALLS, ONTARIO District Governor Jennifer Jones had an absolutely SENSATIONAL, INSPIRATIONAL and FUN District Conference. There was a grand Thursday 'Night Taste of Niagara' reception near the Hard Rock Cafe for the adults as well as the Children's Night, The two Tenors - Bill Ives and John Brooks started both the Friday and Saturday morning sessions. Everyone heard from President's Representative PDG Sam Movva of Vijaywada, India. Traverse City Rotarian Marilyn Ann Fitzgerald gave a terrific keynote presentation about sustainable outcomes in humanitarian aid projects. Evan Thomas from 'Engineers Without Borders' emphasized their strategies for effective humanitarian intervention programs. Lois VanStipdonk and Chris Hardy reviewed the progress and the future of Hearts and Hands for Honduras. PRID Mike McCullough presented the extremely successful Peace Summit Highlights. At the Friday luncheon, DGN Neil McBeth presented the Governor's Citations in 8 Categories. PDG Bob Gallagher presented a PHF and TRF District Service Awards. There were two breakout workshops that ran overtime due to the interest of Rotarians. Friday evening featured Windsor-Roseland Rotarian Gordon Orr as Masters of Ceremony . He was petitioning the Governor for meat at breakfast to help satisfy his carnivore instincts. DG Jennifer seven special Rotarians for the Council of Governors (COG) Award. Hazen Price from Amherstburg Rotary Club. Carlo Abati from St. Clair Rotary Club. Shelly Duben from St. Clair Rotary Club. Betty Madducks from the Windsor-Roseland Rotary Club. Bob Carris from the Livonia AM Rotary Club. Mike Roy from Dearborn Heights Rotary Club. Kyle Stack From Trenton Rotary Club The Thursday evening concluded by Group Study Exchange and Youth Exchange Program Presentations Saturday started with no meat but plenty of other items for breakfast. The first program was the Kids Kamp - Parade of Children and their Children's Community Service Project - Blanket Presentation for a place for abused families. ADGE Liz Smith announce that this autumn there will be another Rotaplast Mission to the Philippines. The District 4-Way Test Essay Contest winner from Massey High School gave a sterling reading of his essay. Livonia AM Rotarian Bob Carris formally announced the first Rotary 4-Way Test Soccer Ball Project - (It is in 7 languages) After the break, there was an video about 22 Rotary Club's involvement in Honor and Comfort for the military troops. Grosse Pte Sunrise Rotary presented "Girls at Risk" Program Video. Moderator Mark Murray led a presentation with Bob Carris, Shelly Duben and Aruna Koushik about starting and involvement in an International Project. Arnie Charlton and DGN Neil McBeth gave an update on the R.E.L.A.Y. in Ghana Presentation. Roger Mann, Wayne Titus and ADG Chris Hardy talked about their past and future international Water Projects. This session concluded with the recognition of the children in attendance an the Rotarians who participated in an International Project. The Saturday night session featured a keynote address from RIPR Sam Movva and many major awards to Rotarians and Rotary Clubs. Rotary International Service Above Self Award went to PDG Bob Sanchez Rotary International Foundation Meritorious Service Award went to PDG Larry Wright The William H. Ives Lifetime Achievement Award Went to PDG Neal Ballheim Sunday session was short and sweet with closing remarks from DG Jennifer, RIPR SAm and Conference Chair Jim Ives. There were resolutions from PDG Jack Mueller, treasurer's report from PDG Ed Schulz. On to RI Convention in LA by PRID Mike McCullough and 2009 District Conference in Mackinaw Island at the Grand Hotel. BACK to DisCon Special Recogntions
