School Peace Pole The students and teachers of St. Rose Catholic elementary school are putting the finishing touches on their peace garden this week. The school was awarded a Peace School designation by the Rotary Club of Windsor Roseland and planted a special peace pole and six new trees on the campus to commemorate the event. "You're supposed to exhibit peace, understanding, goodwill and service above self," principal Kelly Rilley said, explaining what the Rotary Club looks for in a winning school. "Kids feel like they belong here," Rilley said, describing how the students work hard to include everyone, especially new students who have just arrived in Canada. The six new trees surround a peace pole with "May peace prevail on Earth" inscribed on it in English, French, Arabic and Italian - some of the main languages spoken by students at the school. Each tree is meant to symbolize a facet of peace, Rilley said, such as inclusion, respect and love,

Buck a Book Sale

The Rotary Club of Windsor Roseland celebrated Literacy Month by hosting a book exchange. Club members brought in their gently used books and had a Buck a Book Sale. All funds will be going to their Operation Bookmark project which supplies books to those in need in their own community and internationally. The club intends to donate any books that do not sell to a local charity. Seen in this picture are members of the Literacy Committee, Joyce Jones and Sandra Beattie doing some book shopping.
