Mariners Choir
The members of the Rotary Club of Grosse Pointe enjoyed a very touching program this past Monday.
They were entertained by the Mariners Choir. The Mariners Inn is a shelter and treatment center for men.
It is a non-profit, which has been 'Saving Families... One Father at a Time" for more than 70 years.
The audience was quite enamored by the dedication of the volunteers and delighted by the quality and gratitude of the men

Grosse Pointe Rotary Club Receives Greater Detroit Community Honor

On Friday June 17, 2011 our club was honored with the “Greater Detroit Community Volunteers of the Year” award by Matrix Human Services of Detroit. Matrix Human Services was founded in 1906 by the League of Catholic Women. Matrix Human Services serves their community through twenty-three service locations with a staff of five hundred employees and countless volunteers.

As Matrix President and CEO Dr. Marcella Wilson said in honoring these organizations “Over the past five years, I have worked with amazing board members, staff, volunteers and corporate supporters like Blue Care Network, DTE Energy, Great Lakes Health and The Grosse Pointe Rotary Club whose 3 Million Pound Challenge to the community for food, clothing and books filled pantry shelves and supported thousands of clients”.

Honored guests Bill Scott President Elect, Bob Bashara Immediate Past President, Paul Rentenbach Treasurer and Mike Carmody Chairman of the 3 Million Pound Challenge, accepted the Award on behalf of President Mark Wilson and the Members of the Rotary Club of Grosse Pointe, Michigan.

Grosse Pointe Rotary Club - Holiday Meeting
Once again, the nationally acclaimed Grosse Pointe South High School Pointe Singers wowed the members and guests at the meeting on December 13. Under the direction of Ellen Bowen, the students sang and danced their way into the hearts of all who attended.

Several members of the Rotary Club of Grosse Pointe were the highlight of the Grosse Pointe Parade, held on November 26. Under the direction of Past President Bob Bashara, members built a marvelous float, in less than two weeks.

 

Detroit & Grosse Pointe Rotary Clubs
Detroit and Grosse Pointe Rotarians faced off in the Second Annual Turkey Challenge, to raise funds to purchase turkeys for Gleaners. One hundred turkeys were purchased and hand delivered to Gleaners, all in all about 1,000 pounds of turkey. This year, in addition to bragging rights, the winner was to receive the gift of the loser sporting a turkey suit. In all fairness, Bob Bashara was not a party to the bet, I, your intrepid and crafty correspondent, created the Most Magnificent Turkey Hat Ever Made. Submitted for your approval, and cheers. A Blast at the Winter Blast  Rotarians from all around District 6400 came together to assist in the collection of books, clothing and food for the 3-Million Pound Challenge at the Winter Blast in Detroit, February 12-14. Under the leadership of Grosse Pointe Rotary President Bob Bashara and GP Rotarian Mike Carmody, the group collected more than 420,000 pounds in a 3-day period.
