Essex Rotary Club
The Essex Rotary Club brought a little bit of holiday cheer to the Essex Area Food Bank last Friday afternoon.
President, Ron Ricci, representing the rest of the Essex Rotary Club, forwarded 100 hams to Essex Area Food Bank coordinator Eileen Clifford.
President Ricci said that in the past, the Rotary Club would collect canned goods during the Essex Santa Claus Parade, but this year decided to purchase hams for the food bank instead. The idea came about when the club was preparing for its poinsettia and ham sale. The club leadership decided to order a few extra hams for those in need.

Saturday, Nov. 27th, Essex Rotary club participated in the Essex BIA Santa Parade. Our exchange student, Sebastian (Norway), was in his first parade ever and had a great time. We pushed grocery carts along the parade route collecting canned goods for the Essex Area Food Bank ....the community was very supportive with their donations. The Food Bank van followed behind the carts and we were able to fill it up by the end of the parade. The Essex Area Food Bank was very grateful for all of the donations especially at this time of year when the need is so great. Essex Rotary volunteers were glad to act as Santa's helpers for this great cause. Many times, parents sent their children over to the grocery carts so that they could put in the canned goods themselves. We could also hear children asking their parents "What's a Food Bank?". It made us realize how blessed many families are and how it is our responsibility to give back to those less fortunate. Hoping that everyone has a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays.
