Detroit AM and Detroit Rotary Clubs
A NEW MEANING FOR 'SERVICE ABOVE SELF"
Rotarian John Chambers, President, Rotary Club of Detroit AM, surprised the Rotary Club of Detroit with a special presentation at their June 15 meeting. Over a year in the planning, and thanks to John's persistence, the centennial banner of the Detroit Rotary Club was flown on STS-133 earlier this year. The certificate reads: "This United States flag, crew patch and accompanying Detroit Rotary Club banner were flown to the International Space Station aboard the 39th and Final Flight of the Space Shuttle Discovery during STS-133, February 24 - March 9, 2011, traveling 5.3 million miles in 202 orbits of the Earth. Presented to Detroit Rotary Club, Celebrating 100 Years of Service Above Self, from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration.
John wanted to make special commemoration of Detroit Rotary's Centennial, and went the extra mile (over 5 million miles) His thoughtfulness will be remembered by the Detroit Rotary Club forever.

Detroit and New York Rotary Clubs
The 102nd President of the Rotary Club of New York, New York, David Del Monte, welcomed the three Detroit Rotarians, along with NYC “ transplants”, Walter R. Greene IV and Nicholas Greene, Trey’s sons, whom he had invited for the luncheon.
The visit was planned by Trey Greene after he discovered in his Detroit Rotary History research that, in January, 1911, club president No. 1, W. F. “Bill” Cornell, with an endorsement by Paul Harris, was an invited speaker at the New York Rotary Club to speak on “business ethics”. This year’s visit by President Mary Anne Demo, Trey Greene and Larry Powe was to commemorate and celebrate that 100 year old event with an “older sister”. Mary Anne exchanged the club and centennial banners with President David.
