A few weeks ago the Dearborn Heights Rotary Club wrote checks totaling $2,000 to help an orphanage in Brazil with food and clothing for abandoned children. We recently donated $500 to the Salvation Army for Thanksgiving baskets and $500 for back to school packages. Our Dearborn Heights “Green Team” will be spending $2,500 along with a $1,800 District grant this year to plant trees and teach
elementary students about preserving the environment.
In 2010 we spent $3,500 for scholarships for students in need to allow them to attend college or trade school. We spent $1,500 to build a wheelchair ramp for a housebound resident of Dearborn Heights. $6,500 went to the Rotary Foundation to help build good will and understanding in the world and to help eradicate polio. Many more thousands were spent in our community and around the world to help those in need.
