Plymouth Rotary Club - 4 Way Test Essay Contest

We welcomed new member ChristinaVega. She was sponsored by Paul Opdyke who indicated that Christina works in Paul's office as an administrative assistant for Serene Surroundings. District Governor Neil welcomed our newest member into the Plymouth Rotary indicating that Rotary will be judged by the actions of all Rotarians as we serve our communities and world. District Governor Neil presented Christina with her Rotary Pin and then had her present Paul Opdyke with a sponsor.

We had one of our best programs of the year as we recognized the winners of the Plymouth Rotary Four Way Test Essay Contest. Co-Chairmen of the Committee are Carol Saunders and Tony Bruscato. They indicated that this whole project
started with Dr. David Campbell and his efforts to get this program off the ground. This year 615 essays were turned in to the club to be read by the committee. Those hard reading committee members included Dan White, Don Masini, Bill Webber, Jeff Stella, and Norm Weast.

First Place winners received an $80 gift card to Borders Book Store and second place winners received a $40 gift card to Borders. Dr. Craig Fiegel indicated that this clearly shows an entire community of outstanding students. Individual winners came forward to have photos taken with their certificates and President Dave and District Governor Neil.

We awarded students from Central Middle School, Discovery Middle School, Pioneer Middle School, West Middle School, Canton Charter Academy, All Saints Catholic School, and Our Lady of Good Counsel.  We also heard two of the essays as Meg Halstead an 8th grader from Central Middle School and Zachary Cohen an 8th grader at All Saints Catholic School both read their documents. Meg's was titled "Sometimes the Truth Can be Difficult." While Zach's was "Face the Charges." Both were written with the Four Way Test as a basis of the story.

Carol Saunders noted that this was Zach's third straight Essay Contest luncheon. And she was also pleased to note that every single prizewinner came to lunch with us this year.
