Monroe Rotary Club - Breakfast with Santa Thanks to everyone who helped out at the Friday afternoon setup and for Saturday morning's Breakfast with Santa at a Monroe Elementary School. We served 235 breakfasts and I figure we must have treated about 120 students with another special event which included a tasty breakfast, lots of gifts and crafts. The turnout wasn't what we wanted or what we had planned for but it was still an outstanding event for Monroe Rotarians.. Special thanks to former Rotarian Joe Bellino who once again was a wonderful Santa helper. According to my count we had 28 Monroe Rotarians there to don the Santa hats and be part of the activity Saturday and for the Friday setup. Plus there were a few Rotarian spouses. Thanks to Ray Lauwers and the SMCC Interact students and MHS Interact students who helped us. A special tip of the fedora to Patty Thompson for all of her help to make the craft and face-painting area a special treat for the kids; to Serge Bourgeois for heading up the kitchen committee; to Nancy Colpaert for taking care of the registration; to Dr. Ram Nair for taking photos of all kids who met with Santa; to Dave Yentz who headed up the cafeteria crew and was there to make sure most of the kids got plenty of syrup on their pancakes; and to Don Lieto who jumped in to help with the gift distribution. If you ever see Kathy Mink of the Hollywood School cafeteria staff in your travels around town, please make sure to mention how much we appreciate her. She works that day as a volunteer just like the rest of us, and I don't know what we would do without her. I really appreciate the help from everyone. Dave Bagnall |
