Wayne Rotary - Senior Citizens Party On Thursday, February 18, 2009, the Wayne Rotary Club held a Pizza and Pita Party for the residents of the Wayne Senior Towers, located on Sims Street in Wayne. Not only were the residents treated to delicious pizza and pita sandwiches from Papa Romano’s, they also received a Nintendo Wii game system from the Club, to encourage them to be physically active and sociable. The Wayne Rotary Club sponsors many community service activities, including summer picnics in the Rotary Parks, an annual Holiday Parade, yearly distribution of a dictionary to every third grader attending elementary school in Wayne, and renovations to a classroom at Wayne Memorial High School for use as Teen Court. Laura Mack, the current President of the Wayne Rotary Club, said, “We do a lot with kids every year, and I wanted to do something for the seniors in our community. I thought winter would be a good time to have a party, because it’s sometimes hard for older people, especially those with disabilities, to get out.” Several Wayne Rotarians volunteered to serve the pizza and interact with the residents. Valerie Orr, current Principal at Wayne Memorial High School, brought some teachers and students to help. A good time was had by all. Return to the 2008 - 2009 Photo Gallery |
