Taylor Rotary - 2008 Turn Off the Violence
A great time was had by all the children and their families that attended the 14th annual “Turn Off The Violence” event held by the Taylor Rotary Club on September 18th at Heritage Park in Taylor. The weather was ideal for an evening of fun outdoor activities, away from the television. Many area community organizations were there to introduce the many activities that are available to the children in Taylor. Participating were Taylor Lanes, Taylor Methodist Church, Taylor Sportsplex, Taylor Golf, Heritage Martial Arts, Taylor Animal Shelter, Taylor Fire Department, Taylor Police K-9 Unit, and the Tin-Lizzie’s Shriners.
The event began with the Taylor West Middle School Band and Choir members performing for the large crowd. Afterwards the members of the Taylor Rotary Club served over 1500 hot dogs, chips and beverage to the people that attended the event. The Taylor Rotary Club would like the thank the following companies that made donations to make this event another success: Rays Prime Meats, Total Community Credit Union, G&J Cartage, and Penguin Juice.
Rotarians are concerned about the welfare of children and promote the many activities in our community. The purpose of the “Turn Off The Violence” event is to raise awareness in parents, children, and the community of the effects of violent behaviors and offer alternatives to the violence. Violence is a learned behavior that can be unlearned. Thank you to all who attended and the Taylor Rotary Club looks forward to next year’s event.
