Shoe Boxes - 2008

Many Rotarians from the Carleton, Dearborn, Dearborn Heights, Detroit, Windsor Roseland, Windsor St. Clair, Trenton and Taylor Clubs gave up part of their Labor Day Weekend for for the poor in Nicaragua. A team of over 30 Rotarians, children and Youth Exchange Student Jussi Larkovou Packed 110 bags of New Mother Supplies for Chinedega, Nicaragua. Also PDG Jack Young from Cleveland Area District 6630 brought over 440 shoe boxes of children's supplies for the Youth of Nicaragua. They also brought medical supplies for a doctor working in the village. These supplies were all boxed and packed under the guidance of Lyn Oglesby, who has helped with many Rotary Projects. The boxes were stored and shipped by Walmart to Iowa, where more shoe boxes will be added. These will then all be shipped to Houston, loaded onto a boat and shipped to Costa Rica. They will then be trucked to the Northwest Corner of Nicaragua. Thanks to all the Rotarians who helped with the event on September 1st.

PDG Larry Wright organized the packing day and through the great hospitality of the Walmart Super Center in Taylor, Rotarians were given areas and conveyor lines to help with the packing. After packing was over, lunch and drinks were provided by Walmart, who also donated $1000 to the cause. The Taylor Rotary Club is still trying to raise funds to cover the cost of all the bags. If your club would like to help, contact PDG Larry Wright.
