Schoolcraft Rotaract - Charter Celebration

The Rotaractors of the Schoolcraft Rotaract Club held their last meeting of the school year.  They were surprised to see all the visiting Rotarians.  The Rotaractors soon learned that Plymouth AM Rotary Club President Kate Rosevear announced that she has their official Rotaract Charter for their club.  AG Wayne Titus and Rotaract District Chair Trey Greene congratulated and challenged the Rotaracters to continue to grow in service and leadership.  Lastly Kate handed out Rotaract Membership Cards.

A message from President Kate.

The ROTARACT OF SCHOOLCRAFT COLLEGE has been officially chartered by District 6400 and Rotary International.
This is an incredible feat considering that we started this process less than 10 months ago. First, we need to thank Elizabeth Anchor of the Marketing Staff at Schoolcraft College for opening the doors for us at Schoolcraft. Dawn Ham-Kucharski, a member of our Club and Faculty Member at the College, was quick to volunteer to act as Mentor for the Schoolcraft Rotaractors, giving us the entree to the student population and to the student services organization that we needed in order to make our idea of starting a Rotary Club for college students a reality.
Dawn is to be congratulated for accomplishing the near impossible! In less than 2 semesters she has brought together an enthusiastic and energetic group of young people, introduced them to each other and to the ideals of Rotary, especially Service Above Self, energized them with her unbridled enthusiasm and helped them form themselves into a diverse yet cohesive and wonderfully dedicated group of community service-minded young adults.

Together these young people have participated in more than a dozen community service projects and they have developed some serious fund-raising skills. They have made contributions to our club's Jerry Trumpka Polio Plus Fund, to Wayne Titus' pure water initiatives for Honduras and El Salvador and to our Relay for Life fund-raiser initiative. (They even saved our Club the $150 registration fee for this year's Relay by enrolling another campus club as a new member of the Canton Relay.) They have worked beside our Club members and our Interact Club members as we cleaned up, painted up and fixed up a home for developmentally disabled adults in Belleville, at the Tanger School Christmas party and at our annual Holiday Party for Senior Citizens. They assisted us in gathering clothing, books and other necessities of life for the Henry Ford Hospital Clothing Bank and for students at Samson-Webber School in Detroit. They participated as a team in our Sagear Scholarship Bowling Fundraiser event and they stepped forward and helped the Detroit Rotary Club and District 6400 host a group of Youth Exchange Students at the North American Auto Show in Detroit and even did some ice-skating with the kids in Campus Martius afterwards.
Many of our Rotary A.M. Members have taken on various roles in working with Dawn to help bring this new club together. Some worked behind the scenes to help get the club up and running; several have acted as speakers and instructors at Rotaract Club meetings; others have chopped and sawed and painted and collected and poured and dished and whatever else it takes to lead by example. We are grateful to all of you for helping Dawn and the students to get this Club up and running in record time.
We are especially grateful to District Governor Bruce and his wife Sue Goldsen for guiding us in this process, to PDG Jim Karolyi, Asst DG Wayne Titus and Trey and Colleen Dolan Greene of the Detroit Club for taking time from their very busy schedules to cheer on the Rotaractors and to be a presence and an example of Rotary In Action and Rotary Cares to our budding...soon to be blossoming... Rotarians.
