Lincoln Park Rotary - Family Fun Night

“Family Fun Night” is Lincoln Park Rotary’s version of “Turn Off The Violence” started in Minneapolis in 1991.  This was our 12th year sponsoring this fast moving, fun filled evening with almost 400 people in attendance during this exciting 2 hours from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.  There were many door prizes.  There were about 40 JROTC cadets running games, giving out candy and 18 door prizes and patrolling the high school halls.  Many National Honor Society and Student Council and Leadership Club representatives providing exciting crafts for the children from preschool thru third grade.  15 Exhibitors gave out educational and helpful information about services available to the citizens of Lincoln Park.  Bobo the Clown with his face painting friend certainly helped make this a very special night for young and old alike. This year we were very happy to welcome Joe Griggs, Past District Governor of the Lions, who arranged to have several leader dog puppies in training visit us.

We were honored to have Lincoln Park Mayor Frank Vaslo, City Councilman Thomas Murphy and our Police Chief, Tom Karne in attendance.  We were also honored with the presence of Rotary District 6400’s Governor, Bruce Goldsen and his wife Sue, Governor Elect Neil McBeth and his wife Cheryl, our Assistant District Governor Jim Nadeau, and our favorite photographer, Past District Governor Jim Karolyi.

We owe a special thank you to the Lincoln Park High School Maintenance Department and Food Service for their wonderful cooperation.  This year thanks to the generosity of Trinity Transportation who donated all the candy prizes and the 480 hot dogs and chips that were consumed, Douglas Electric who sponsored Bobo and Friend and McDonald’s Corporation who provided the orange drink, cups and four gift certificates for door prizes, the Lincoln Park Library who donated free books and goody bags, and especially to the Lincoln Park School Administration.  There was very little expense to the Rotary Club of Lincoln Park.
