Belleville Rotary - Scholarship Event
On Tuesday, May 19th the Belleville Rotary Club held their 64th Annual Scholarship Award Program. The club recognized seven recipients of first time scholarships and three recipients of second year renewal scholarships.
New scholarship recipients were: Ashlely Butzin, Nicole Infante, Allison Kloc, Ryann Musselman, Lyndsay Richards, Brittany Villa, and Rashida Wideman. Second year renewal scholarship recipients were: Kendall Acho, Lacey Jo Marcotte, and Amanda Stamper. Each new recipient received several items in their "reception line" which were---Certificates of Achievement/Recognition from State Representative Dian Slavens, State Senator Bruce Patterson, Van Buren Township, Sumpter Township, Van Buren Public Schools, and the 34th District Court. They also received a framed copy of the 4-Way Test from our club, as well as a Letter of Congratulations with their $1500.
Rich Willick, President of the Belleville Rotary Club, offered greetings to guests, scholarship recipients and their parents. Debra Juchartz, Chair of the Belleville Rotary Club Scholarship Committee talked about the history of the scholarship program and its potential impact upon the recipients, before introducing each scholarship recipient. Each recipient gave a brief biographical summary and commented on their plans for the future.
Kevin Szawale, a motivational speaker and author, gave a talk entitled “Being WHO I want 2 Be” which challenged the scholarship recipients and the others in attendance to recognize and act on opportunities they have, daily, to influence and help people and have an effect on the world – not to settle for the safe, mundane life.
