Trenton Rotary Projects The Trenton Rotary Club and The city of Trenton planted 28 trees on Saturday, May 17th. 20 of the new trees were part of the 70 Trees for 70 Presidents project begun in 2007 with grants from District 6400 and DTE Energy Foundation. 4 teams of Rotarians and DTE employees went out and planted the trees in less than 2 hours, thanks to the employees of the City of Trenton, who helped with the project. There has now been one new tree for every president that has served over the 70 years of Rotary in the Village and City of Trenton. May 22nd marks the birthday of the Trenton Rotary. Also 5 DTE employees and retirees helped with the project, so a Walter McCarthy Volunteer Grant can be applied for. These $1500 grants are open for administrative costs for foundation. This Preserving Planet Earth Project helped replace some of the 2500 ash trees that have been removed in the City of Trenton. Also, The Trenton Rotary participated on a Community Shred Day, sponsoring the Shredding Truck. Residents and businesses were charged a small fee for secure shredding of their boxed documents.The truck costs $600 for 3 hours, and the Trenton Civic Commission benefited from the sponsorship, raising enough money to purchase a new amplifier for use for their events. This also prevented paper from going into the landfill for another Preserving Planet Earth Project. Special thanks to new Rotarian Rick Williams, who helped with the lifting of boxes for most of the 3 hours. Also thanks to the Howey family businesses, who made a special donation for a trailer full of boxes. It was a busy three hours and maybe an idea for your club. Market it well and you could make 300% or more. |
